Updated: Vancouver's 'Sex in the City" Party - Mr. Big crushed women's fantasties
4 Apr 2004

The 'Sex in the City' television series on HBO did wonders for women about the sexual adventures of these four New York women. It will become a television classic with many of the their chats and discussions embracing female sexuality. The television show has helped my business out with lots of chats about the situations and making female sexuality a part of life not as an ‘underground / dirty" topic.

This week is the Canadian season finale of the show’s sixth season (we are a few weeks behind from the US television networks) where the faith of Carrie and Mr. Big will be determined. Due to the fact that we as a society strongly enjoy the fairy tale ending, this one will be one of those endings. Yes I have seen the last episode and it is enjoyable. Part of me is sad about the ending but the show is ending on a positive note, where the fan’s loyalty is strong and the characters are moving on and not just because of low ratings.

However, last night I attended the Pre-season Finale Party for 'Sex in the City' at one of our local bar establishments here in Vancouver Canada, and they brought in the famous character Mr. Big, i.e. Chris Noth, for a Q & A session with autographs and pictures. However, the attendees were very disappointed in Chris Noth. As he seemed to appear either drunk or stoned or both. Also the references to our BC illegal agricultural industry was definitely inappropriate to the evening. Yes, he was that - very disappointing to his fans due to his behavior and his general lack of decent, clean-cut appearance.

Chris Noth is an actor and in this series he played one of the most important roles, which was the love/friendship interest to the main character Carrie. Mr. Big became the perfect ‘fantasy guy’ to millions of single and married women. Mr. Big was clean cut, articulate and a vision of this century’s ‘fairy tale prince’. That is what an actor is suppose to do, capture on the audience’s fantasies and dreams.

However, why the fuck can’t these actors and performers realize that their audiences do not want to know the real person but the character that they associate with. So many fans, last night were extremely disappointed because the fans were there to see his character, Mr. Big - not him, himself, Chris Noth.

If an actor is attending a function surrounding a character they played; they should act the part and help fulfil many of the fans dreams and fantasies. Last night – Chris Noth, cleared out the room with his poor behavior, "Beatles" song singing and his lack of focus on the questions about the show and his character. The guests, who attended the event, attended a 'Sex in the City' event and met the character Mr. Big; it was not a Chris Noth event. So he should of respected the fans and got into his Mr. Big character last night.

Last night, Mr. Big broke a lot of fantasies of many women and fans and it is such a shame. But from working in the adult industry and meeting a lot of the adult entertainer actors and actresses, the successful entertainers understand that during fan appreciation and events you have to ‘act’ your part because they are the ones who will support you in your future.

Over all the evening was great for me and my business as a lot of clients and friends attended, but the disappointment of the event on their faces will be the discussion around many home parties and girl brunch sessions in the future of Vancouver.

Update March 27, 2004

In the season finale, we finally get to find the real name for the character Mr. Big, at the end of the show, when Carries answers her cell phone the name in the call display reveils his name - Jon.

Updated April 5, 2004

Yesterday while reading US Today at my local newspaper store, I read that Chris Noth was hired to come and do this 'Pre-Launch Sex in the City Party' as himself, and not has the character Mr. Big from the famous TV show.  However, all attendees were mislead by the organizers and promoters of the event, including the establishment as they sold the event around the fact that Mr. Big was going to be the center of the party with a Q&A about the show.  So who is lying, the organizers or Mr. Noth.  This doesn't surprise me about the establishment where this event was held as they have mislead other events, sponsors etc in the past.  But that is just my opinion.
